History

The University of Maine Student Government, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation that is direct-funded by the University of Maine, but is legally separate. Student Legal Services is a branch of Student Government that provides free legal assistance from licensed Maine attorney Sean O’Mara whose bio is below. This service has existed in various forms through most of UMSG, Inc.’s over three decades of incorporation.

Sean S. O’Mara

Sean O’Mara has been the staff attorney for Student Legal Services for nine years. He was involved in Student Government and other student organizations when he was a student at the University of Maine and has a passion for facilitating an environment for students to take the lead. He graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. During his time at Maine Law, he had externships with Maine Right to Know working directly with the Office of the Maine Attorney General and a legislative commission, and was a Bernstein Fellow working with the judges in York County.
